NEWS GRAPHICS
Much of my career has been spent in television, namely news. In 2008, I had the honor of being invited to join Fox 5, a Tribune owned affiliate in San Diego. We were to be the first station to broadcast in the then new format of HD. We had to transition over from SD to HD, utilize new aspect ratios and frame rates, and all of the other challenges that came with that.
Along with a half-hour evening broadcast, there was a four and a half morning broadcast and I was the sole designer for that time slot. My duties covered creation of all news assets, including various programs and systems that communicated with producers and the control room. I was involved with all post show meetings and departments as we broke through our growing pains and became the "well oiled machine" that produced live television.
In addition to the still and animated graphics, I worked with other non-news station broadcasts and promotions, and with sales. Some of the other assets can be seen on the backlot page and on the Comic-Con page.
Along with the news gfx demo reel, I have attached various examples of on-air graphics and set shots. We had creative license regarding a lot of the set's appearance, lighting, and how we chose to brand the Fox name, and we accomplished this with lighting and set arrangement. We separated ourselves from competing stations with this unique look, and along with the backlot, took advantage of green screens and LCD screens to create unique yet branded looks.
